Celebrating Women of Achievement
in St. Charles County 2007
Meet the Dove Award Recipients
St. Charles County is home to thousands of women
who use their talents, knowledge and compassion to
encourage, support and inspire their female
and male peers. To recognize and honor the numerous
personal and professional achievements of these women,
Saint Charles Business Magazine created the Dove Awards,
Recognizing Women of Achievement in St. Charles County.
The nominees were honored at the awards luncheon
which was held at beautiful Whitmoor Country Club.
More than 350 guests attended the luncheon to
recognize their mothers, daughters, sisters, co-workers
and friends who were nominated. Mayor Patti York
served at Mistress of Ceremonies and Mayor Pam Fogarty
gave the keynote address.
Saint Charles Business Magazine is pleased to profile
the 12 women who were chosen to receive this year’s Dove
Awards. Each woman selected personifies what it means
to be a women of achievement in St. Charles County.
Saint Charles Business Magazine would like to thank

Leadership - DiAnne Mueller
DiAnne Mueller of the St. Louis/St. Charles Crisis Nursery received the award for
Leadership. She is a sensitive, dynamic woman whose tireless efforts on behalf of
children and families throughout St. Charles County and the entire St. Louis metro
area have had a tremendous impact and changed many lives. Her commitment to the
prevention of child abuse and neglect, and to providing shelter to children whose families
are in crisis, is a driving force that has helped save the lives of thousands of youngsters each
year.
Under her extraordinary leadership, the St. Louis Crisis Nursery is now in the process of
establishing its 5th location in Wentzville.
The welfare and safety of children is not only work for this energetic leader; it is her passion. This go-getter devotes long
hours to overseeing agency staff, all public relations efforts, community outreach and program development. Her unflinching
dedication to children is also evident through her involvement with additional organizations such as the St. Louis Council on
Child Abuse and Neglect, and the St. Charles County Domestic Violence Board. For her service, she has received the St.
Charles County Heroes Mental Health Award, the Health and Human Services Outstanding Service Award, and recognition
with the Excellence in St. Charles County Award.

Teondra Lyles, Happy Choices, Home-Based Business
Teondra Lyles is an enterprising young lady who has known music all of her
life, having learned to play the piano and sing at a very early age. After years of
performing for schools, churches, weddings and geriatric centers, this
wonderful woman attended college and obtained a degree in social work. Upon
graduation, she discovered a niche in teaching youngsters how to sing, learn and
develop through music, and she now operates a home-based business called “Happy
Choices” for Kids.
Her love of music and children has combined beautifully to give parents, kids and
educators fantastic musical options that work on a child’s motor and cognitive skills
along with range and motion. She is a spiritual warrior, dedicated to writing, teaching and performing songs that give
children fun ways to work on character development.
She is blessed with an incredibly supportive family, and strives to stay on the leading edge of creativity and childhood
music education with Happy Choices CD’s and booklets. She credits the “Lord Jesus Christ” for all of her success.

Patti York, City of St. Charles, Governmental Impact
The recipient of the Dove Award for Governmental Impact is well known
throughout St. Charles County, Patti York, Mayor of the City of St. Charles.
She is an Adjunct Professor of Corporate Communications at Lindenwood
University, and teaches various curricula, such as Mass Communications, Literature,
Writing Skills, Speech, Business Writing and Research, and Corporate
Communications.
She was previously the owner and operator of the Saint Charles House Elegant Bed & Breakfast, and is an avid reader who loves to travel. This intelligent, hard working woman has a husband and four wonderful children, yet still finds the time for volunteer activities. She is the immediate past President of the Missouri Municipal League Board of Directors, Executive Board
Member of the St. Louis Metro Mayors Association, a member of the Board of Trustees for the St. Louis Symphony,
former President of the D.A.R.E. Board of Directors, a founding Board Member and Treasurer of the Friends of the St.
Charles Mounted Police, and a Eucharistic Minister at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church.

Vicki Houska, Community Volunteer, Community Enrichment
This year’s recipient of the Dove Community Enrichment Award is a remarkable
woman, whose heart and soul has been committed to the well-being of families
and children in need. Vicki Houska and her husband, who have two birth
children, have served many years as enthusiastic, nurturing foster parents to three boys,
who they later adopted.
This strong woman has also opened her heart and home to the birth families of their
three adopted children, to keep the family ties strong and intact. She serves on the board of
the Missouri Foster Care and Adoptive Alliance, a group that serves to help families who
foster children and adopt from the foster care system.
For the past five years, this amazing mother has hosted the Breakfast with Santa for children in the foster care system
in St. Charles County. She makes absolutely sure that each child gets a gift, and a picture with Santa. This caring and
charitable mom opens her doors to as many as 60 foster families to come in and get food and household supplies for no
charge. She teaches youngsters at St. Cletus’ church and works as a regular volunteer for many community service and
church events.
Jan Haug, Educational Influence (tie)
This year we have a two-way tie for the Educational Influence award. Both are
wonderfully accomplished women.
Jan Haug has been a teacher for the Archdiocese of St. Louis for 31 years.
She has taught and created entire interscholastic sports programs at Notre Dame High
School, and currently serves as the Community Service Coordinator at Duchesne High
School. This driven educator is a part of the “Appalachia Project,” and has been traveling
to assist residents of that region for the past 20 years by building new roofs, installing
siding, wheelchair ramps and painting and landscaping. With the assistance of her
students and other volunteers, including her husband, this extraordinary woman delivers thousands of dollars worth of
food, furniture and Christmas gifts to 50 families. Without their efforts, these families of Drift, Kentucky would have
nothing under the tree for Christmas. She prefers the summer trips to the region because she loves the interaction with
the families and children. She also traveled to Mississippi to assist the Katrina victims, and now implements such service
projects in St. Charles, St. Peters, and Troy for those in need.

Edie Kirk, Educational Influence (tie)
Edie Kirk began her career as a pharmaceutical sales rep. She moved into
marketing, eventually serving as vice president of marketing, development and
independent living for a continuing care retirement community in Ohio. This
energetic professional has completed a Masters in Nonprofit Management as well as
the St. Louis Women In Leadership program. She now serves as a board member of
the St. Louis chapter of Fundraising Professionals. She also serves as Vice President of
the St. Charles Healthy Communities Board of Directors, and is past President of the
St. Charles ESPW. She is currently with the St. Charles Community College
Foundation and Director of Alumni Relations, and loves that her work affords her the
opportunity to contribute to the St. Charles County community, and to the people who have made her feel so
welcome here.

Melanie DiLeo, Citi, Career/Business Achievement
The recipient in this category serves as Vice President of Community Affairs for
Citi located in O’Fallon, Melanie DiLeo. Her efforts manage the grant,
community and volunteer programs for the company’s operations in St. Louis
and their eight sites across the country.
This conscientious professional manages the Missouri Leadership Council for Citi in
Missouri, and is a member of the Metropolitan Association of Philanthropy. She sits on
the board of several organizations, including Heat Up St. Louis, Big Brothers / Big Sisters,
Gateway Greening, Craft Alliance and United Way.
Under her watch, Citi-St. Louis has been recognized for its corporate citizenship with
the Outstanding Corporate Philanthropic Program award and the St. Louis Champion for Children Outstanding Leader
award. Her awards have included a special Resolution from the City of St. Louis, the Award of Merit by the Urban League,
the YWCA Women’s Leader of Distinction, the Human Development Corporation’s Community Service Signal Award, and the Mathew Dickey Community Service Award.
Peggy Correnti, Health & Wellness (tie)
Our Health & Wellness Category is also a two-way tie, so two wonderful women
in our community are to be honored.
Peggy Correnti is a cosmetologist who has shown excellence in her field for
more than 40 years. She is co-owner of A+ Wigs & Cuts, and this wonderful woman
works diligently to provide warm, personal service to her clientele, despite the sometimes
difficult days she has in dealing with her Multiple Sclerosis. Her nurturing nature
personalizes the services she provides, and helps give an image boost the many cancer
patience that come to her shop for help. She becomes personally invested in their smiles,
and has received many loving letters from her clients.

Sherlyn Hailstone Health & Wellness (tie)
Cherlyn Hailstone graduated from Barnes School of Nursing and earned her
bachelor’s and master’s degrees in nursing from Saint Louis University. She
became president of SSM St. Joseph Health Center in 2005, a 451 bed hospital
facility with a 365 bed acute care unit, an 85 bed inpatient behavioral facility in
Wentzville, and the ambulatory surgery center.
Prior to joining SSM, she has served as the Executive Vice President/CEO of
St. Francis Hospital, and Chief Operating Officer for BroMenn Healthcare. She is a
dedicated professional, and a published writer, focusing on articles pertaining to
nursing leadership and clinical information system development.
Dee Bax, Personal Achievement
Dee Bax is a driven professional and top performer who helps bring growth and
leadership to St. Charles County. She has owned and operated her own
business for almost 20 years, and has a reputation for going above and beyond
the call of duty in a predominantly male-driven industry.
Her company continues to grow, and is a dominant force in commercial real estate and
development here in St. Charles, as well as Lincoln and Warren Counties. She has
received countless awards in her field, and believes that educating and developing
successful relationships with both clients and staff are key to growth.
She is a compassionate and charitable member of several women’s organizations here
in St. Charles County, including the St. Charles Crisis Nursery and The Dove Foundation. Her ongoing efforts to support
the success of women in commercial real estate continue to bring growth and leadership to St. Charles County.

Cathy Beaudoin, Supporter of Women
This very special woman is being honored for being an outstanding Supporter of
Women. Over 30 years ago, she lost her mother to breast cancer. Today, her
tireless efforts contribute immeasurably to improve the lives of individuals and
families affected by hereditary breast and ovarian cancer.
She has served as Executive Vice President, Secretary and Board Member of FORCE, a
non-profit association that supports women whose family history puts them at risk for
genetic forms of cancer. She has been active with FORCE, which stands for Facing Our
Risks of Cancer Empowered for the past 7 years, working to promote the passage of
federal laws that prohibit discrimination by health insurance companies and employers
on the basis of a genetic predisposition to disease.
She also serves as a volunteer and family mentor for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.

Viola Boland, Lifetime Achievement
Viola Mispagel Boland is phenomenal woman has spent an entire lifetime
contributing to the well-being of the St. Charles community and its members.
She spent 18 years serving as a Cub Scout leader and Den Mother. She’s been
a member of the Wentzville Community Club for over 50 years, where she has served
as president, vice president and is currently on the board. In addition, this incredible
member of our community has worked with the Salvation Army for over 20 years as a
secretary and bell ringer.
She has served on several boards, including 2, 2-year terms on the University of
Missouri Extension Council and Outreach Committee. She is a member of RSVP, the
Retired Senior Volunteer Program, and served for 28 years as secretary for the Wentzville Senior Citizens
Corporation. She is a member of the Council of Catholic Women, the Wentzville Chamber of Commerce, and was
voted St. Charles County “Woman of the Year” in the mid ’70s.
This incredibly accomplished woman has been married to the same wonderful man for 68 years and she and her
husband have 10 children, 27 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. She has
demonstrated and outstanding level of excellence, leadership and mentoring throughout her amazing personal and
professional life.
St. Charles County applauds the efforts of all women who are doing extraordinary things in their personal and professional lives.
